First a Lord of the Rings joke… A short film I’ve wanted to make but doubt I’ll ever get around to is to have a couple walk into a travel agency, sit down, and say “We’re trying to think of someplace romantic for our honeymoon. How about Mordor?”

And then the travel agent would yell, “ONE DOES NOT SIMPLY WALK INTO MORDOR!”

And then the scene would end. I envision it being totally hilarious.

But speaking of travel, I’m off to travel. Until the 27th of August! I’ll be camping, Oregon-ing, spending a day with renowned filmmakers (he’s got stuff in Sundance, won festivals, etc.!), seeing a play in Ashland, visiting some Redwoods and driving a lot.

This is the vacation I have waited all summer far, so I’m quite eager to get started.

I’m going to be gone for six days. I have some things to do when I get back ( a couple shoes, some animation, films) but I want to do something cool, something original.

SOMETHING I CAN GIVE YOU.

I just bought three canvases. Each canvas is 9 x 12.

Here’s the deal.

I want you to suggest to me what to paint. The Top Three most creative ideas will get painted.

One rule, though. It has to combine both Horror (like Zombies, Bogeymen, Vampires, Trolls, the Blob, etc.) and Holiday (big or small, birthdays, Christmas, Valentine’s, 4th of July). Whatever combination you think would be the funniest and most interesting to paint.

And there’s no limit to the number of ideas you can suggest. So if you really want the painting, you can think of a lot of ideas.

Then either leave the idea in a comment here, or if you want some privacy e-mail it to me ( alex.jeffries@gmail.com ).

Well, what’re you waiting for? My trip’s almost started, and the sooner it starts, the sooner it ends.

What have you done with my beloved Mallard Fillmore? And Garfield, Beattle Bailey. And no Dick Tracy anymore. He's been around forever.

Does the Daily News leadership understand that the comics section is a major draw for many of their readers? I guess not. This is the most horrendous, awful, unbelievable change I have ever seen a major newspaper make. If you are competing against the L.A. Times, you just lost. If you are competing against the internet, you just lost. If this is the direction the Daily News is taking, I don't want it anymore.

Please bring back Beetle Bailey, Garfield & Hagar.

If you want to try out new comic strips try adding an extra page to check them out, not deleting other comics. The new, replacement comics are poorly drawn and not compelling. Hello internet, where I can get what I want and reduce my carbon footprint by no longer having hundreds of pages of paper delivered to me that I never read. You messed with the four pages that I did read.

Now that you've screwed that up, why do I need your paper?
